In the late 19th and early 20th centuries the Bo’ness potteries produced a grand assortment of ceramic animal figures. Many turn up today in collections, auctions, and online listings. Some have become instantly recognisable, while others are less well known.
This website features images and articles to help with the identification of animal figures attributed to Bo’ness, ranging from the familiar dogs and cats to more unusual subjects.
The aim is to provide a useful reference for collectors, or anyone who's curious about antique Bo'ness ceramic animals.
Please note that the site is at an early stage of development and content is currently being added. Contact details at the foot of page.
The Categories section is a good place to begin your search for individual pieces or groups of figures in which you have an interest.
Figures are conveniently grouped by subject and the page provides a brief description of each of the six categories.
This is how the figures have been grouped.
As you can see, the category headings include lions, dogs, cats, other animals and equestrians.
There's also a section which will assist in the identification of figures of uncertain origin. A visual archive to help distinguish genuine Bo'ness pieces from Staffordshire ceramics or modern reproductions.
From within the categories page click images or links to discover more.
It would be good to hear your views or advice about the development of this website - and if you have any photographs of Bo'ness figures that you believe would be of interest to site visitors, do please forward them to this email address.
Many thanks.
